Why use Heartwood for Windows and Doors?

Heartwood is the inner wood core and is composed of non-living cells. It is usually darker than the outer wood layer (sapwood) and is the optimum material with which to make doors and windows – it is the natural way forward to protect the planet.

The extraordinary durability of our Heartwood windows and doors lies in the selection of the timber used and the way it is harvested and finished.
Our products use only heartwood from slow grown pine trees which are at least 100 years old and are harvested from Northern Scandinavian managed forests.

5 year guarantee against rot

Heartwood contains a maximum of approximately 20% moisture and as the rotting process only begins when 28%-30% moisture content is reached – it cannot rot! It also contains large quantities of resins which act as powerful fungicides and germicides. That’s why all surfaces which are exposed to the elements consist of 80% heartwood.

This is the same material which has been used to create timber buildings, such as the stave churches you can see in Norway, still beautiful, hundreds of years after construction.

Quality controlled manufacturing process

Our Heartwood products combine the best of Danish craftsmanship with modern manufacturing processes. We take pride in turning timber into beautiful windows and doors, designed to fit in with your chosen architectural style with a wide choice of designs and finishes. Every order is custom made to your requirements and we are happy to propose solutions based on a photo or sketch.
Our products are factory finished with either an Opaque (Paint) or translucent (Stain) finish as a topcoat, applied before delivery. This ensures that:
• The wood is not exposed to dirt or weather
• All sections are treated, not just exterior surfaces
• The comprehensive, uniform finish provides effective protection against moisture and UV rays.
• The final result is a fully finished product with a surface finish which cannot be achieved by hand and is easy to maintain.

Elegant glazing –safe and secure

Our nail-less glazing beads (made from Siberian larch) are installed using “Winclick”, the patented clip system, providing a totally nail-less solution. This ensures:
• Beautiful windows without visible pins or filled holes
• No ingress of moisture through nail holes
• No risk of protruding nails
• Uniform compression all the way round the glass
• Burglar resistant – the beading is virtually impossible to remove
• Timber glazing beads offer improved sound deadening and thermal properties than similar beads in PVCu or aluminium.

Low Energy glass – for maximum energy conservation

Our products are glazed with super low energy glass with a U value of 1.1 (energy mark A).
The glazing units are a standard 4-16-4 mm produced by Pilkington.
Super low energy glass keeps in more of the heat rays from the sun than those that escape, resulting in:
• Reduced heating costs
• Improved room temperature and better room comfort
• Increased resale value of your property
